Dances of Univeral Peace
From the beginning of time, sacred movement, song and story have brought people together – at times of seasonal ceremony and celebration, as part of everyday life and life passages, in daily renewal and meditation. The Dances of Universal Peace are part of this timeless tradition of sacred movement, song and story, and are shared all around the world today.
New Delhi, India
The Dances are prayer in motion, cultivating deep peace, community, and joy amongst all participants. Simple, meditative, and multi-cultural circle dances, they draw upon sacred chants, phrases, and music from the diverse spiritual traditions of the earth. There are no performers or audiences in these circles – everyone sings and dances together!
Ayesha’s inspiration
The Dances began in the early 1960s in San Francisco through the pioneering work of Sufi mystic Samuel L. Lewis who believed that when people “eat, dance, and pray together,” the world would find peace.
